Q&S Surgical is a state-of-the-art surgical practice in Decatur and Lithonia, Georgia, specializing in minimally invasive surgery. Luis A. Quinones, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon that prides himself in providing excellent and compassionate surgical care at Emory Decatur and Hillandale Hospitals.

Dr. Quinones received his medical degree from the University of California at Davis (UC Davis) in Davis, California, after graduating from Swarthmore College as an electrical engineer. After completing his general surgery internship at UC Davis, he completed his residency at the Morehouse University Department of General Surgery in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Quinones and his team use minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery to perform complex procedures for abdominal pain, colon cancer, and gallbladder surgery with extreme precision and dexterity.

The team’s commitment to performing laparoscopic procedures means their patients can take advantage of shorter recovery times, lower risk of infection, and minimal scarring compared with traditional open surgery.  Very soon, Dr. Quinones will start using the Xi Da Vinci robotic surgical system to provide an even more painless surgical experience, among other advantages for his patients.

Luis A. Quinones, MD


Dr. Luis A. Quinones has been serving the Atlanta community as a surgeon since he started residency in 2011, and through his time as a private practitioner. He graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. He received the Swarthmore Scholars Award, which included a full ride scholarship. His final engineering project involved the design and building of a hybrid electrical vehicle, which he and his teammates drove from NYC to Washington DC. He then received his medical doctoral degree from the University of California at Davis. During his time in medical school, Dr. Quinones helped lead a free medical clinic, as well as medical missions to Nicaragua and Cuba. He was awarded the MacKenzie Foundation Medical Scholars Award as well as the UC Davis Alumni Association Award. After completing an internship in General Surgery at UC Davis, he completed his Residency at Morehouse University Department of General Surgery. He received the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award during his time there. Dr. Quinones has a couple of poster presentations and has published in a peer reviewed medical journal, in the fields of gynecology, neonatology and colorectal surgery. Currently, Dr. Quinones is an independent general surgeon in the Emory Healthcare System, where he performs laparoscopic and open abdominal surgery, including critical care surgery, colon resections, small bowel resections, hernia repair, cholecystectomies, appendectomies and wound care surgery, among others. In his personal life, Dr. Quinones enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. He also enjoys hiking as well as dabbling in singing and playing some guitar and piano. He volunteers in the medical response team at his local church.
